Still Moving Forward: Summer Youth Alum Finds Success
Previous Summer Youth participant Eli has continued to expand his work experience since he walked through IKRON’s doors last summer. Through the course of the 2017 Summer Youth program, Eli learned critical job skills like teamwork, enthusiasm, and professionalism—specifically, being on time to work each and every day.
But Eli didn’t stop when Summer Youth ended. He entered the job development program at IKRON and was soon working at the UC student union serving lunch. He’s also been working hard at his education, taking classes at Cincinnati State via a program at his high school.
Just last month, Eli started a new job at Sleepy Bee Café busing tables. His managers report that Eli is a steady worker and he’s doing well at his new job. Eli’s mom is happy about his success, too.
From chronically tardy to reliable employee in just one year—that is the power of Summer Youth to prepare students for competitive, real-world employment. In 2018, IKRON has 43 students learning and experiencing the same things Eli was doing at this time last year. Summer Youth students can do great things if given the chance—will you help give them the chance they need?
IKRON’s Annual Golf Outing is coming up July 28, and the proceeds from this fun day of golf benefit our youth programs including Summer Youth. Register today to play, sponsor a hole, or reserve your ticket for dinner and the silent auction. You have the power to make a difference in the lives of young men and women like Eli from around the tristate area.
