This is the 31st in a continuing series of stories--one every day for 50 days--to conclude IKRON's year-long celebration of our 50th anniversary. Missed one? No problem! See the entire series on our news page here.

IKRON still possesses, and frequently reads from, the staff journal from the first year of the UC Rehabilitation Center (IKRON's original name). Today's story is from that journal.

Sometimes, in our early days, things didn't always go as planned. Staff and participants learned to be flexible and adapt when things didn't go quite like they wanted, like a trip to the library.

"Sue Brooks took five of the trainees to the library to show them around and also to get them library cards. After a cold walk, they found that this branch of the library was closed every Friday. They will go again this coming Monday."

"Sue took seven of the trainees to the library this afternoon. They got library cards and several of them took out books to read."
