50 For 50 #25: The Finding Place

IKRON still possesses, and frequently reads from, the staff journal from the first year of the UC Rehabilitation Center (IKRON's original name). Today's story is from that journal.
Early IKRON participants made craft items for, and eventually helped run, a thrift store called The Finding Place. Participants were paid for their work, both for making or selling the items, and some of the proceeds of the sale came back to IKRON to help with expenses.
September 19, 1969
"Meeting of Mrs. Sander, Mrs. Myers, Dave Hizer, and Julian Myers to plan and coordinate craft activities for the future. Projects will include wooden candle holders, glass candles, Christmas decorations, ceramics, simple leather activities, and jewelry.
We have ordered two Zig Zag sewing machines from Shillito's. We hope to turn out work aprons and other items."
September 23, 1969
"Everyone worked on ceramics today and did very well. Each trainee did his own pouring and removing from the mold! All of the pieces came out well."
