This is the 20th in a continuing series of stories--one every day for 50 days--to conclude IKRON's year-long celebration of our 50th anniversary. Missed one? No problem! See the entire series on our news page here.

All of our participants have barriers to employment to overcome when they come to IKRON. With hard work, encouragement, and the right supports, these barriers can be worked around or overcome.

Roger* came to us with an education barrier--he needed to earn a GED. But it was complicated, because he'd also had a traumatic brain injury that made studying and retaining information difficult, especially for a test as challenging as the mathematics portion of the GED exam.

He was undaunted and came in day after day, meeting daily with our education services for over two months in advance of the exam. Test day came, and with the good wishes of everyone and his hard work to draw from, Roger took the mathematics exam--and passed.

Here at IKRON, we see these kinds of results all the time, and it would be easy to forget that making insurmountable barrier into a scalable one always feels impossible at the beginning. But we also see the time and sweat that our participants put into making their barriers smaller and their dreams come true, and so we rejoice with Roger and with everyone who reaches their goals. Even when--perhaps especially when--the road has not been a smooth one.
