Dr. Scott Myers welcomes you to IKRON

This is the thirteenth in a continuing series of stories--one every day for 50 days--to conclude IKRON's year-long celebration of our 50th anniversary. Missed one? No problem! See the entire series on our news page here.

IKRON's initial accreditation from the Commission of the Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) came in January of 1976, followed by re-evaluation and re-accreditation in November of the same year. At the time, we were the only university-based, CARF-accredited social rehabilitation facility in the nation.

Following our separation from UC, IKRON sought re-accreditation again, this time as an all-volunteer organization. CARF evaluators met with referral sources, participants, and staff, and were pleased with what they found--until Dr. Scotty mentioned that our high success rate was achieved entirely by volunteer professionals. CARF had never encountered such an agency before and was hesitant to offer accreditation. Dr. Scotty hit the books, reading over all of CARF's guidelines, and pointed out to them that their policies did not prevent all-volunteer organizations from being accredited. CARF agreed, and awarded IKRON accreditation as the first all-volunteer rehabilitation agency to have such a distinction.

IKRON is proud to remain a CARF-accredited agency to this day.
